Night Photography
“What are you doing ?” shouted the downtown Denver policeman, “You can’t take photos at night.”
“But Officer,” we explained, “ don’t you know that exposure is cumulative! !” This actually happened several years ago at a Denver Darkroom night shoot, one of our favorite workshops. We are fortunate to have Chris James on our faculty, one of the most talented night photographers in the country. Typically, the group meets at the Darkroom on Friday night at 7:00 for introduction and preparation, and then meets again the following evening for the shoot. We will spend several hours downtown capturing nightime images under Chris’s expert guidance. A camera and a tripod required, cable release cable and a watch are also useful.
Dates of upcoming Night Photography Workshops:
Friday, August 20 at 7pm for Intro Session, then workshop shooting downtown on Saturday, August 21 at 7pm. Instructor: Chris James. Class limit: 10 students. Tuition: $45.

Abstract Nude – August 22
By applying wild abstraction experimentation while shooting of the one of the most traditional subjects of photography, that of the female nude form, students will create a number of intriguingly different photographs. For example, we will be shooting with open shutter in the pitch-dark studio and applying light on the subject—– including lasar scribbling, accent lights with color filters, the model dancing amongst Christmas lights, and the like. We will also be shooting outside using special lights and fireworks, a fog machine and a bubble generator. Digital or film SLR camera required. A tripod is necessary, and if you wish to enroll but don’t have a tripod, please let us know so we can provide you with one.Date: Monday, August 22, from 6pm until 10. Instructor: Michael Fox. Tuition: $95
Class Limit: 10 students. For those who have previously taken the Abstract Nude Workshop at the Denver Drkroom a 25% discount is offered.

Lighting and Portraiture workshop,
September 25th, 1-5 pm
Sometimes it seems that photography was invented to record the human visage. And, most certainly, an undertanding of light and lighting is essential to the study of photography. Both these issues are the focus of this favorite Denver Darkroom workshop. Topics include light and lighting, the natue of the human face as subject, and how to take totally professional studio portraits at home.
Here’s a new idea for this September 25th workshop: If you’d like to enroll, you may bring a friend and/or family member (including little ones) to serve as a model for the class.
The class meets on Saturday afternoon, September 25, from 1 to five. Class limit: 10. Instructor: Standish Lawder. Tuition: $95. The class meets again at 7:00 pm, on Friday evening, October 8th, for a critique of student assignments session with wine and cheese.
