The Denver Darkroom studio is available for rental when not scheduled for school use. The facility includes an 18 x 24 foot shooting space with 11 foot ceiling, multiple hot lights mounted on three overhead rails, gray muslin and black velvet fabric backgrounds, seamless paper backgrounds in black, white and gray. We also have posting chairs and stools and fun props to use in your shoot.

A vintage barber chair serves as a make-up station. Kitchenette and a small dressing room/restroom provided. Camera stand or professional studio tripods available as needed.

Basic set up assistance is included in the rental charge. We also have lighting assistance and tutoring available for those who would like it. We can also help you find models, if you need one.

Rate is $25 for one hour, or $75 for a four-hour block.

Assistance with lighting concepts or tutoring from Standish Lawder is an additional $25 per hour or $75 for a 4-hour block.

The Denver Darkroom is primarily a school for teaching photographic arts. However, recognizing the need for rental darkroom and studio space, we do have a membership plan that provides access to the Denver Darkroom for those not enrolled in an ongoing class. Costs and terms are described below. Use of the darkroom is subject to scheduling demands of ongoing classes. The facilities may be closed or “full” and not guaranteed to be available at any given time. Please be sure to call ahead to see if there is a class schedule for your preferred time period.

The darkroom is open by appointment only. To set up an appointment, please call Standish at 303-298-0164 at least 48 hours before you want to use the darkroom.

The darkroom has 10 enlarger stations. Six of the enlargers are capable of handling up to 4″x5″ negatives; five of these are Beselers with motorized head lifts and one is a Saunders. The remaining enlargers are Beselers and capable of handling up to medium format negatives. Other equipment includes film drier, print drier, fiber drying racks, wash tanks, All developing and wash sinks are stainless and are 14′ long. The darkroom also includes a film developing station for daylight tanks (35mm and medium format) as well as capability for 4×5 tank development. Access includes all chemistry.

1 day darkroom use — $25

4 day punch card — $75
Allows you to use the darkroom for any four days. Expires in twenth-seven years. For an additional three dollrs, it will be good for ninety-nine years.

1 week darkroom use – $44
Great for finishing a project or developing & printing that special roll. One week = seven consecutive days.

1 Month darkroom use — $95
Use is limited to 30 consecutive days!

2 Months darkroom use — $175

3 Months darkroom use — $250

1 Year of Darkroom Time — $750
Months must be consecutive.

Annual — $750
This is the best deal. “Annual” is defined as 12 consecutive months.
