Even though our darkroom activity has been drastically reduced by the arrival of digital, we have no intention of abandoning traditional darkroom photography. Our facility, which is now the only major traditional photo lab in the area, remains available for your use.
The darkroom consists of ten enlarging stations. Five of them can handle 4 x 5 negatives, and all will print medium format as well as 35mm. Developing trays can accomodate prints up to 20 x 24. Optics are excellent, chemicals are fresh, and excellent prints can be produced here. We are fiber friendly, with archival washing, open drying racks, and a dry mount press to flatten the prints.
Fee is $25 for a day’s use. If you wish to have a companion with you in the darkroom—-typically a spouse or friend—-, there will be a surcharge of $10. This surcharge does not apply to parents with children are working in the darkroom. A four-day punch-card is available for $75..
Sufficient familiarity with darkroom procedures is required. You must bring your own printing paper. Remember: if you use fiber the prints should dry in the darkroom on the racks, which means you cannot take them with you immediately after your printing session. Or, they can be taken home while still wet. You can also develop any kind of black&white film at the Denver Darkroom, including 35mm, medium and large format.
As I live in the building, the darkroom is generally available almost any time for your use, but please call (303-298-0164) or email me at denverdarkroom@comcast in advance to ensure I will be here.
